Dragonborn were conceived in Turkey in 2024 by experienced musicians, guitarist Ekrem Kani and vocalist Cem Yücel who had worked together in previous projects and had ambitious dreams for a band like no other; a band that created an entire fantasy realm within which to play out their magnificent sagas of triumph and agony, a band that conjured up music that would excite and amaze, captivate and enthral, transporting listeners away from the everyday struggles of mundane existence. Only the finest musicians would suffice for their vision of Dragonborn, so their search began for true warrior heroes of metal renown. Fellow Turkish musician, guitarist Cihan Engin from black/death metallers Ravenwoods was drawn to the Dragonborn banner, along with Italian bassist Emanuele Rastelli from the darkly dreaming Crown Of Autumn…the line-up was nearly complete. Keyboards would play an essential part in the atmospheric, immersive and epic sound of Dragonborn so who better to work with than Jonny Maudling, previously with Battle Magic masters Bal Sagoth and a contributor to albums by My Dying Bride, Elvenking and Keep Of Kalessin? On the drums, only the heaviest would do for Dragonborn’s songs of battle and warfare, so they turned to the internationally respected Kevin Talley – a man who has recorded albums with the likes of Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Six Feet Under, performed live with Hate Eternal, Suffocation and The Black Dahlia Murder and even auditioned for the legendary Slayer! The brotherhood of knights was complete.
Work on the recording of Dragonborn’s debut has now finished. Ekrem Kani’s songs have been brought to vivid, visceral life and the world of Cem Yücel’s imaginings realised, his heroes and monsters given a technicolour canvas on which to fight their battles and follow their destinies. The Riddle Of Steel Beyond Ultima Thule tells the tale of the besieged kingdom of Valdatron and its valiant king, Valderion, who will brave any danger to save his people and his land. Magnificent metal anthems, richly textured orchestration, passionate and dextrous individual performances and scene setting interludes combine to create an ambitious, all consuming listening experience. The album was mixed and mastered by Erkan Tatoğlu, a founder member of Turkish death metal institution Suicide, who has worked his studio magic with countless Turkish bands as well as renowned international acts like Chapel Of Disease. His brilliant work means that all the myriad elements of Dragonborn’s glittering vision are allowed to shine.
Dragonborn are determined to bring their dramatic music to the stage in the most complete manner possible, with incredible costumes and breathtaking stage sets; fire, flames, fury and fantasy! A dedicated live line-up is committed to the cause and ready for action.
