  As the all enveloping velvet darkness pales to grey and the first rays of light set the horizon afire with the crimson and gold flames of dawn, the world returns to life...and my heart dies again. In the realm of sleep and dreams, in the comforting embrace of the night, I can live once more. In the starlight I can watch you dance again across the frost rimed grass. Each day the sun burns away my happiness, drags me back to the unremitting agony; and I curse it like a ghoul, like an eternal, nameless shadow-dweller – alive yet empty and bloodless, my still and silent heart waiting always for the gift of dusk.

  Rise To The Sky is the name behind which Chilean musician Sergio González Catalán crafts vast hymns of aching grandeur and towering melancholy. The sadness, the eternal sorrow in his songs is overwhelming and the loss expressed in the winding guitar melodies, the roared, agonised vocals and spirit-crushing drum beats will leave you breathless. Every Day, A Funeral is the fifth full length Rise To The Sky album and the most intensely poignant of all Sergio’s work. This album takes you by the hand and leads you through a landscape of ashes, beneath turbulent skies, heavy with the roiling clouds of grief. Each despondent, torturous footstep through monumental tracks like ‘Abandoned’ and the album’s superlative title track reveals new depths of despair; but in this desolate music there is such beauty as well, the beauty only found in art of depth and honesty. Every empathetic heart will connect with the dramatic emotions that rage within the monolithic riffs and drums that rumble beneath them like forbidding thunder.   Following on from an album as acclaimed as 2021s Per Aspera Ad Astra could have been a daunting task, but Sergio has surpassed his previous achievements with ease. When Every Day, A Funeral is released on May 6th by Meuse Music Records, on CD, vinyl and digital formats, new standards will be set in the field of atmospheric doom/death metal. Adorned in the evocative artwork of Natalia Drepina and mixed and mastered, as ever, by Filippos Kolipanos (Ocean of Grief, On Thorns I Lay) Every Day, A Funeral is a staggering piece of work that will lift Rise To The Sky into the upper echelons of the doom metal pantheon.
