My Silent Wake - Invitation To Imperfection
Label: Opa Loka Records
Release date: 20.03.17
Over the years My Silent Wake have become one of the most admired bands in the doom metal scene, with
incredible albums like 2015s stunning Damnatio Memoriae. However, what has made them a truly unique
entity is the breadth and depth of their creativity. Not content simply to craft albums of formidable,
melancholy metal they have also stripped their music down to its acoustic essentials, both live and on album
and with releases like the acclaimed Eye Of The Needle, explored the world of dark ambience as well. Now,
with their first album for new label Opa Loka Records, My Silent Wake offer something different again, with
the most experimental, atmospheric and imaginative release of their storied career.
Invitation To Imperfection combines My Silent Wake’s mastery of the ambient and acoustic and then adds
more... Friends and associates from the extended My Silent Wake family offered their own personal touches
to the recordings and an array of instruments were used to bring these songs to life; from zithers to
mandolins, pump organs to karimbas, they all contribute their own colours and textures to the magic.
Multiple recording locations were also used, as the band wandered far and wide harvesting the sounds that
resonated with the vision in their hearts. The result is an enthralling album that is, in its own quiet way, as
powerful as any of My Silent Wake’s magnificent doom albums.
Ever present in all that My Silent Wake do is Ian Arkley and he offered a few thoughts on their latest creation:
“It is not about virtuosity, high class production or striving to be noticed or to impress... it is about trying to
create a balance which allows for things not being perfect whilst trying to create an interesting track. This
isn't just My Silent Wake ambient or just My Silent Wake acoustic; this is a mixture of the two which we
sincerely hope you enjoy.”
Invitation To Imperfection is a deeply affecting album. It’s thought provoking and dream invoking, prompting
reflection and revelation, a very special album from a band who are a true musical treasure of untold worth,
with a rich history and an exciting future.
