EPHEMERA – FOR THOSE AFRAID TO DIE EP LABEL: MORNING STAR HERESY MUSIC GROUP RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 12th 2025
Born in the dark times of the pandemic – an outlet for fear, frustration and anger – Ephemera has become so much more than the collective of musicians, artists, tattooists and designers, bound by friendship, ever envisaged. Once released from the restrictions of lock down the band flourished, taking on new life and growing exponentially over a series of singles, EPs and increasingly devastating live performances – even picking up regular airplay from Radio 1 DJ Alyx Holcombe on her BBC Introducing Rock show. However, the band have never lost that creative core of raw emotion that fuelled their early work, reaching deeper into themselves with every release. Casting aside scores of songs that didn’t quite reach the levels of passion and intensity that they demand from themselves, Ephemera have now reached a new peak in their musical ascent. Heavier, harder, more challenging, more melodic, more demanding than ever before…this is For Those Afraid To Die.
Beginning with beautiful, echoing notes and foreboding drum beats, threads of thought and weighted words, opening track ‘Origin’ casts a hypnotic spell. It draws you in, closer and closer, as you listen intently to the troubling voices, searching for understanding…and then title track, ‘For Those Afraid To Die’ erupts from the speakers and seizes you by the throat. It’s shocking, ferocious and aggressive, but the reflective sense of melody is still there within the emotional tornado. The effect of this song when it is unleashed live will surely be cataclysmic. Single ‘Heaven’ follows with its melodic guitar lines dancing over huge drum beats and acerbic, throat shredding vocals, before breaking down into vast riffs like shifting tectonic plates. This track also features a guest vocal performance from Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage – a perfect marriage with the melodic but unflinching Ephemera sound. Finally it’s the turn of ‘House Fire’ with its furious flurry of notes, bludgeoning beats and massive, emotionally charged grooves…and sudden ending. One minute you’re lost in a tempest of unbridled sound and fury and then it’s gone and the resulting silence feels almost like another track, a part of the listening experience, as the sounds of the world gradually filter back into your consciousness…
Every element of For Those Afraid To Die sounds unquestionably real, heartfelt and hard hitting. And everything that accompanies these four explosive songs has been as meticulously crafted as the songs themselves, right down to the enigmatic, thought provoking cover imagery. Now with the backing of Morning Star Heresy Music Group, Ephemera are set to make a seismic impact on the underground music scene with their impassioned fusion of melodic hardcore and high impact metalcore. For Those Afraid To Die is music you can feel, music that can make you think, music that can hurt and heal. On February 12th, Ephemera are taking things to the next level – ride with them, or get out of the way.
